Jim was removed from management, and Paul maintained the brand single-handedly for a time, but in 1988, he sold it for $60 million, retiring and handing over the business to his son, Steve. The company did not experiment again and continued on its original course.
In 2004, new opportunities opened up for the brand when Vans acquired VF Corporation, which already owned TNF, Timberland, and other renowned brands.
